Sudan vows to settle all dues to unpaid South Sudanese pensioners

Sudan and South Sudan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at expediting the payment of financial dues to South Sudanese pensioners who had served in the Sudanese government before separation in 2011.

Sudan and South Sudan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at expediting the payment of financial dues to South Sudanese pensioners who had served in the Sudanese government before separation in 2011.

The signing of the agreement follows a meeting between Sudan’s state minister for Labour, Stephen Amin Arno and South Sudan’s deputy minister for Labour, Baba Medan Konyi in Khartoum on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters at a joint news conference, Minister Amin said the meeting discussed the pensions of South Sudanese citizens who had served in various Sudanese institutions before independence in 2011.

The Sudanese official pointed out that the two sides agreed to speed up the payment process.

For his part, Deputy Minister Baba Medan said that the two sides agreed on a plan to pay the financial dues to South Sudanese civil servants who had worked in Sudan prior to South Sudan’s secession.

"We agreed on issues of bilateral relations between the two countries to enhance the exchange of expertise in the field of Labour and public service,” he added.
