The Khartoum mediation team has unveiled its latest reviewed proposal for a power sharing deal between South Sudan’s warring parties so as to end the conflict.

The Khartoum mediation team has unveiled its latest reviewed proposal for a power sharing deal between South Sudan’s warring parties so as to end the conflict.

In the latest document seen by Radio Tamazuj, the power sharing in the top executive at the national level would include the incumbent president Salva Kiir, first vice president to be given to the SPLM-IO leader Riek Machar, the incumbent government will appoint the second vice president and the opposition alliance and other parties will take the third vice president.

According to the proposal, either the second vice president or the third vice president will be a woman. The three vice presidents are tasked to oversee three cabinet clusters.

The Council of Ministers, according to the latest document, will comprise of 30 ministers organized in three clusters. The incumbent government will take 17 ministers, SPLM-IO will take 8 ministers, the opposition alliance 2 ministers, and other political parties will take 1 minister.

The Khartoum mediation team proposes that there should be 9 deputy ministers during the transitional period.

The transitional national legislative assembly would consist of 440 seats. The incumbent government has 266, SPLM-IO would appoint 106 members, the opposition alliance would appoint 46, the other political parties have 17 seats and the FDs would appoint 5 members.

The Council of States will consist of 52 members.

The document proposes that the old 21 districts of South Sudan should be considered to be the temporary states of South Sudan until the final decision on number and boundaries of the states is made by the Inclusive Boundary Commission.
