A protest at the University of Dilling in Sudan’s South Kordofan turned bloody Tuesday when security forces killed one person and wounding over a dozen, students said.
The students were peacefully demonstrating to demand provision of water and electricity in their dormitories, but security forces entered the campus and dispersed them with tear gas and live bullets, protesters alleged.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Wednesday, several student protesters said one student was shot dead and another 16 were wounded and taken to Dilling Hospital for treatment.
“About 30 students have been arrested and that two wounded students are in critical condition,” a protester said.
Offices of the Student’s Support Fund were partly torched during protests, according to a source.
The disgruntled students said they will continue to sit-in against the use of force on peaceful protestors and will keep demonstrating until their demands are met. They added that their demands may increase after the loss of their classmate.
