Security forces stormed a home in Abu Jubeiha, South Kordofan, allegedly threatened the family, and detained two men last Thursday. The reason for their detention has not yet been made clear.
“A heavily armed security force suddenly stormed our house. They threatened the family, and seized my two brothers, Khalil and Mustafa, without giving a reason,” said the sister of the detained men, Rashida Ibrahim Mohamed Ali.
“They were taken to an unknown destination. We are all very concerned over their fate, as we do not know their whereabouts, and why they were detained,” the sister said.
Citizens of Abu Jubaiha have demanded the departure of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), sent to South Kordofan by the National Security and Intelligence Service (NISS) to “fight the insurgency in the state.”
Slogans written on the walls of the guest house where the Second Vice-President Hassabo Mohamed Abdel Rahman resided on Wednesday, read “The RSF are foreign mercenaries”, and “Free Imam El Sadig El Mahdi”.
National Umma Party leader and Imam El Sadig El Mahdi was detained in Khartoum on 17 May on charges of “disrespecting the prestige of the state,” among other accusations, for accusing the NISS-commanded RSF militias of committing war crimes and recruiting non-Sudanese nationals.
