The Sudanese police will form a new unit for universities across the country, government officials said this week.
According to Sudan’s police, the police unit will take over from university security guards that are currently in place.
Recently, universities across Sudan have been the scene of large-scale student protests.
Gen. Babiker Smara Mustafa, head of the Administration and Planning Authority of Sudan’s police, said that the force would recruit university and secondary-school graduates.
A source said that the move was in line with previous recommendations in light of escalating security challenges within higher learning institutions.
