Sudan’s National Ministry of Health has stepped up surveillance and screening at Khartoum International Airport and Joda checkpoint following reports of acute watery diarrhoea in South Sudan.

Muhtadi Mahmud, director of quarantine at the health ministry, said in a press statement that his department has put in place precautionary measures and preventive measures to monitor those who come from South Sudan.

The official said the monitoring will be done through immediate follow-up forms. He added that any suspected case will be given antibiotics as well as health education.

“Quarantines and medical equipments are there for health care if necessary, so these measures coincide with measures being implemented by the department these days on all entries,” he said.
