Sudan: SPLA-N lose at least 11 men in defense of Kau Nyaro and Werni

The Sudan People’s Liberation-Army North (SPLA-N) have lost at least 11 men in fighting on Wednesday in Kao-Nyaro and Werni in the eastern Nuba Mountains, the movement said in a press release yesterday.

According to the statement by SPLA-N spokesman Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, the movement repulsed two attacks in Kao-Nyaro area in Abu Jubeiha County and Werni area in Talodi County.

“On our side we lost 11 martyrs and 27 others wounded,” the statement reads, claiming also that 38 enemy were killed in Kau Nyaro and 27 in Werni.

The SPLA-N described the attacking force in Werni as ‘Lions of the Sons of Liri,’ and the attackers at Kau Nyaro as ‘Wehdet al-Haq’, a convoy of 1300 men with 57 vehicles and 3 tanks.

SPLA-N claimed to have captured or destroyed two tanks, several trucks and jeeps, and other ammunition and weaponry.

The Sudanese army did not yet confirm its involvement in these attacks, but released a statement Thursday announcing capture of another area in the same state, Mirri Bara, located to the west of the state capital.

SAF Col. al-Sawarmi Khaled said they inflicted heavy losses on the rebel side in long fighting that lasted for several hours.
