Sudan, South Sudan mutual trade to resume next week

Sudan’s General Union of Transport announced that all the necessary arrangements are in place to re-activate trade between Sudan and South Sudan, according the recent agreement signed in Khartoum.

On 23 September, South Sudan’s Minister of Roads and Bridges Kuong Danhier Galuak led a ministerial delegation to Khartoum where he discussed issues of transport and roads with his Sudanese counterpart.

Shams El Kamal Hamad Diab, an official in the union, told the Sudanese Media Centre (SMC) that the launch of the direct land transport between the two countries will begin shortly after Eid El Adha holiday.

He pointed out that they will export a variety of goods including medicine, clothing and other items to South Sudan.

Shams further said they are currently repairing trucks to make ensure that trade exchange goes on uninterrupted between the two Sudans.

The official added that South Sudan has shown its commitment to protect the ports and other infrastructure to ensure that transport continues smoothly.
