Sudan and South Sudan have directed formation of a joint technical team to determine the damage caused by fighting between the two countries in the oil processing town of Heglig in 2012.

Sudan and South Sudan have directed formation of a joint technical team to determine the damage caused by fighting between the two countries in the oil processing town of Heglig in 2012.

The two ministries, according to minutes of a  meeting held between 24 to 26 June in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, tasked the joint committee to carry out the assessment of the damage and quantify the losses for compensation to be made to Sudanese government.

The parties agreed that the scope of the work of the committee and the membership will be finalized in a meeting to be held in a third country by third 30-31 July 4, 2018.

The Sudanese government said it would prepare the report of the damage and promised to deliver the copy of the damage to the government of South Sudan within one work from the time discussions were first held.
