The Sudanese and South Sudanese ministers of defence will meet in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on Monday to discuss security issues on the shared border between the two countries.
South Sudanese chief negotiator Pagan Amum told AFP that ‘the extraordinary meeting will include different mechanisms, including the joint mechanism to verify and monitor the border and establishment of a demilitarised border area.’
Talks between Sudan and South Sudan resumed last Tuesday at the headquarters of the African Union mediator, aimed to resolve outstanding differences between the two countries after South Sudan gained independence last July.
