The common borders between Sudan and South Sudan have been closed as police in three Sudanese States introduce security measures before the April elections.
Police leadership confirmed they have mobilized forces to implement the final steps to ensure a secure voting process on Monday.
The East Darfur government reportedly closed all crossings on the border to secure the elections.
Deputy Governor of East Darfur State Ahmed Kibir said in a press statement that a joint security committee was set up to secure the border with Kordofan States.
He further said there is a force deployed along the Bahr al Arab-Bahr al Ghazal border to prevent infiltration.
Meanwhile, the local authorities in West Kordofan and South Kordofan States announced a military cooperation to secure the border and elections.
Ahmed Khamis, West Kordofan Governor, said his state will support neighbouring South Kordofan State.
He added they have one common enemy, saying any threat to South Kordofan is also a direct threat to citizens in West Kordofan State.
For its part, South Kordofan State confirmed its ability to secure the elections. South Kordofan Governor Adam Al Fekki said his government has put in place all the necessary measures to secure the election which is one of the citizen’s rights.
Northern Bahr al Ghazal, Western Bahr al Ghazal and Warrap States in South Sudan recently complained about increasing prices of commodities due halt of border trade with Sudan as the elections nears.
