Samia Kiir, the detained secretary-general of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP), has been released from En Nahud prison in Sudan’s West Kordofan state after almost three months in prison.
Kiir was arrested under an emergency law imposed by the state government.
On 30 August, a coalition of Sudanese female activists petitioned Sudan’s Human Rights Commissioner in Khartoum to release Kiir and the deputy chairperson of the National Umma Party (NUP), Mariam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi.
SCP chairperson Ibrahim Al-Sheikh remains in jail along with other party members in North Kordofan state.
