Sudan’s security agents at Khartoum International Airport on Saturday evening stopped Stella Gitano, renowned South Sudanese writer and anecdotist, from travelling to Berlin to participate in a festival for Sudanese literature.

Several Sudanese writers and novelists are attending the event these days in the German capital, Berlin.

The invitation was extended to the South Sudanese writer among many writers. However, the security agents had prevented her from travelling allegedly due to lack of travel procedures for residents.

For his part, Abdel-Aziz Baraka Sakin, a prominent Sudanese novelist, regretted the move by the Khartoum government, saying the festival missed one of the pillars of the Sudanese literature.
