Sudanese security organs are continuing to arrest many opposition leaders following protests against the government decision to raise fuel and electricity price.

Ibrahim al-Sheikh, former leader of the opposition Sudanese Congress Party (SCP), Awad Al-Sied, chairman of the SCP party’s central council, and Mastur Ahmed Amin, secretary general of the party and other opposition figures were arrested by security agents.

 Meanwhile, Shams al-Din Hamed al-Amin, information secretary of the Unionist Movement Party  (UMP) in Madeni town, three members of the Sudanese Communist Party and several other members affiliated to the Socialist Arab Baath Party were also arrested.

Multiple sources told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that students at the University of Khartoum protested inside the main campus against the government decision to increase fuel and electricity price in the country.

Several students at Wadi al-Neel University in Atbara town took to the street yesterday to protest against the new policy, according to sources.
