Sudan: Security agents disperse youth protest in Kassala

Security operatives in eastern Sudan’s Kassala State said they had dispersed a group of young people who staged a protest in the town early Monday.

In a joint statement seen by Radio Tamazuj, the Beni Amer and the Habab Youth said they had gathered to protest the killing of Al Amin Mohammed Nur, inside the security and intelligence buildings in Kassala after being tortured.

They also confirmed that they had reached a number of resolutions during a meeting with the state security committee headed by Governor Al-Sadiq Azraq, regarding the killing.

The statement indicated that the meeting resolved to hand over the accused for prosecution, with the state security committee committing not to repeat such crimes.

The statement explained that the committee had begun interrogating five of the accused, including an officer.

The Kassala city center witnessed confrontations between the demonstrators, who surrounded the security and intelligence building, with the security forces confronting them with tear gas and bullets in the air.

A member of the prosecution lawyers’ association, Esmat Mahmoud, confirmed that the investigations went on well after the results of the medical examination were produced.

“The medical report is still under examination and scrutiny, and the initial results indicate a criminal act, which led to the transfer of the accusation from Article 51 to Article 130, premeditated murder,” Mahmoud said

The angry youth demanded the immediate dismissal of the State Director of the National Intelligence and Security Service.

Nur will be buried at the Al-Hassan and Al-Hussein Cemetery on Tuesday morning.
