Over 50 civilians including women were arrested by Sudanese security agents in Agadi, about 36 kilometres west of Blue Nile state capital El-Damazin, local sources said.
The sweep followed clashes between government forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North (SPLA-N) in early August.
A source told Radio Tamazuj Sunday that all the detainees were transported to Roseires area and are accused of spying for the SPLM-N, which is fighting the government in Blue Nile and South Korodofan states.
On 2 August, at least two SPLA-N soldiers were killed and several others wounded in clashes with Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in Agadi when the rebels penetrated into the market at night, according to SAF spokesperson Al Sawarmi Khalid Sa’ad.
