Sudanese national security agents arrested eight members of the Sudanese Communist Party in Khartoum on Saturday.
The arrest of the opposition members coincided with the launch of the “Leave Campaign” to boycott the upcoming April elections in While Nile State.
The party’s leading member Maimat Malik said in a press statement that the eight opposition members were arrested in El Hajj Yusuf residential area on the outskirts of Khartoum while attending a memorial service for the communist leading member Suad Ahmed.
The arrested members were identified as El Rashid Abdullah Ali, El Hadi Adam Abdullah, Ali Musa, Assad El Goni, Mahjoub Habib, Mohsin Abdel Nabi and Yehya Mudalal.
In other political developments, a preparatory meeting of the National Dialogue was scheduled to take place yesterday in Addis Ababa, despite the absence of opposition political parties.
