A plane belonging to the Green Flag Aviation Company carrying Sudanese government officials crashed on Saturday evening, Civil Aviation Authorities confirmed.

Those on board the aircraft included Sudan’s Vice-President Hassabo Mohamed Abdul Rahman. He survived after the plane crashed at Khartoum Airport, the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) reported.

The plane was on its way to Khartoum from campaigning for President Omar al-Bashir in El Gezira State. Salah Salim, Director General of the Khartoum Airport told SUNA that the incident involved the Green Flag Aviation Company plane.

Salim attributed the cause of the incident to natural circumstances, denying any technical problem.

“The crash occurred after the aircraft had competed its flight successfully, and the passengers including the vice president got off. So the aircraft got burned when it was hit by a sudden cross wind while it was being packed,” he explained.

He confirmed there were no losses of life.
