Sudan’s Trade Minister inspects Joda border crossing point

Sudan’s Trade Minister has inspected crossing point at Joda, on the joint border between Sudan’s White Nile state and Upper Nile state in South Sudan.

During his inspection visit on Monday, 28 October, the Trade Minister, Osman Omar El Sherif, was accompanied by White Nile state’s Governor, Yusuf El Shambali, and other senior government officials.

In a press statement to Sudan News Agency (SUNA), El Sherif explained that the visit aimed at inspecting customs points, river transport as well as rail way potentials. He stated that traffic between the two countries will immediately start after the “identification of the Zero Line” by the Joint Security Committee, expected to meet in November.

The Minister reaffirmed his government’s readiness to facilitate the trade with South Sudan and to consolidate good relations and peaceful coexistence between the two nations.

The Governor of the White Nile state reaffirmed his state’s determination to implement all the agreements signed with South Sudan. “The common border will bridge social, economic and cultural cooperation between the two sisterly countries,” El Shambali said.

The Governor also confirmed that the state authorities are ready to open the crossing points as soon as required, vowing to provide electricity, health care and education to the communities living on the border in order to enhance communal integration between the two Sudans.
