Sudan’s Refugee Affairs Commission has presented a petition to First Vice-President Bakri Hassan Saleh requesting the government to reverse its decision to treat South Sudanese refugees like Sudanese citizens.

This came after reports of influx of the South Sudanese refugees in White Nile and South Kordofan States recently. The local authorities announced that the number of the South Sudanese refugees stands at 200,000.

Hamad Al Jazouli, Head of the Refugees Commission, also asked the parliament’s specialized committee for social affairs in a report to pass a policy that can treat the South Sudanese citizens as refugees instead.

Al Jazouli explained that refugee camps for the conflict-affected families will be run by the commission in collaboration with the relevant bodies.

He pointed out that they also presented similar report to the high committee of humanitarian aid for South Sudan headed by the First Vice President Bakri Hassan Saleh.

The high committee comprises of Ministries of Health, Education, Foreign Affairs, Interior, and National Security and Intelligence Services.
