Sudan’s PCP says whereabouts of detained member unknown

A member of the opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP) who was arrested by the Sudanese National Intelligence and Security Service in Kadugli town in South Kordofan state is still missing.

Adam Mohamed El Amin was picked up at the market by the security service and taken into custody on Tuesday last week. A party official afterwards said he thought the reason for the arrest was Adam’s critical views of the Rapid Support Forces.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, the State PCP Secretary General Mahgoub Sir El Dar Saleh confirmed that his colleague was taken to an unknown destination by the security agents.

“We recently came to realize that Mohamed El Amin was not in the prison. You know, some people tell us that he was transported secretly to Khartoum. But up till now the party does not know exactly where he had been taken to,” he explained.

He noted the party and the relatives have been unable to visit Mohamed in the custody since his arrest.

Sir El Dar further revealed the party is now preparing to form a committee to meet the governor of South Kordofan Adam El Faki in order to explain to them what happened.

In its previous statement, the party members threatened that they would resort to other means to secure the member’s release if he were not released soon.

The senior opposition leader pointed out that they tried many times to meet the Director of Security Services in the state but failed.

“We could not meet the director of security, but we decided to meet the governor, because he is also the head of security committee in the state, so either tomorrow or after tomorrow, God willing, we shall meet him on the matter,” said the politician.
