Sudan's opposition parties say Museveni should moderate peace process

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni should mediate Sudan’s peace process, the opposition Justice and Equality Movement and the Sudan Liberation Movement said on Wednesday.

In a joint press statement, the two opposition movements said Museveni played an important role in the resolution of the conflict in South Sudan and in the conclusion of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005.

“The Republic of Uganda with its visionary leadership is best placed to play a constructive role in the search for peace in the Republic of Sudan," the joint statement said.

The government of Sudan has accused Kampala of hosting Darfur’s armed groups, while Kampala has accused Khartoum of supporting and hosting the Lord Resistance Army.
