A number of Sudanese opposition parties last Thursday signed the ‘Teiba Charter,’ in which they reiterated their opposition to holding elections in 2015.

Representatives of the opposition met in Teiba village, west of Wad Madani, capital of El Gezira state, last week, under auspices of Sheikh Abdallah Azrag Teiba, leader of the Qadiriya Sufi sect in Sudan.

The signatories reiterated their rejection of the 2015 elections, which they said are “solely arranged by the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), without the participation of the other parties.”

Sudan’s NCP has been seeking to involve the opposition parties in a ‘National Dialogue’ ahead of the elections, but some of the parties have resisted.

Among the signatories of the Teiba Charter are the National Umma Party, Democratic Unionist Party, Sudanese Congress Party, Popular Congress Party, Reform Now Party, Liberal Party, Arab Baath Party, Nasserist Party, as well as representatives of Eastern Front.
