Sudan’s national dialogue parties dismiss Kamal Omar

Sudan’s national dialogue mechanism known as “7+7” has dismissed opposition parties which boycotted a general assembly meeting on Saturday.

Sudan’s national dialogue mechanism known as “7+7” has dismissed opposition parties which boycotted a general assembly meeting on Saturday.

The assembly decided to dismiss the political secretary of the opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP) Kamal Omar and members from the Truth Federal Party and Justice Party–Mainstream.

The mechanism called on the PCP party to replace Kamal Omar with another member so that he can take part in the meetings.

For his part, Kamal Omar downplayed the position of the national dialogue parties. He said those parties are lacking political awareness by setting conditions that impede the National Dialogue.

He pointed out that those political parties started the dialogue process without any conditions.  “These are the same parties which caused the separation of South Sudan,” he said.

Omar said they will hold a meeting with the AUHIP chief negotiator Thabo Mbeki in order to prepare for a meeting including the “7+7” mechanism and armed movements so that they take part in the dialogue.

He called his party members and the people of Sudan to boycott the upcoming elections which he described as a “farce.”

Kamal added that the elections will worsen the political situation and that it will also exclude a large number of citizens in the conflict-affected areas.
