The Sudanese rebel group, Justice and Equality Movement’s (JEM) of Jibril Ibrahim on Tuesday briefed the Sudanese community there about the recently signed Sudanese peace agreement in Juba.
JEM vice-chairman Ahmed Adam visited Rumbek town of Lakes State to explain the agreement between the Sudanese government and the rebel outfit. He was received by a large crowd at the airport by Sudanese nationals who reside and work in Rumbek.
The deputy chairperson of the Sudanese Women Association in Rumbek, Fanah Abdelkarim Makik Yayay, said she was excited about the visit because she fled Sudan due to war and lack of freedoms.
"I left northern Sudan because there was no freedom and I came to South Sudan and I have been living in Rumbek for almost 10 years freely. The signed peace agreement between rebel groups and Sudan’s government to end the war will bring development and stability in the country,” she said.
The chairman of the Darfur business community in Rumbek, Sharar Abubakar Adam Juma, said he is optimistic that the Sudanese peace agreement will bring freedom, peace, equality, and justice for all in Sudan.
"When this agreement is implemented in Sudan between rebel groups and the government, there will be a change in terms of peace and reconciliation, freedom as well," Juma said.
JEM’s Ahmed Adam said he was happy to join the Sudanese in celebration of the peace agreement in Rumbek.
The vice-chairman of Sudanese rebel groups of justice and equality movement JEM Ahmed Adam will be in Rumbek for 3-days to address the Sudanese community on the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan.
