Sudan’s interior ministry discusses security issues with UN police in Abyei

Officials from Sudan’s Ministry of Interior met with police officials from the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) on Sunday to discuss the current security situation in the contested Abyei area.

Gen. Salah al-Din Nur al-Daim said the meeting aimed at coordinating efforts and ensuring complementary roles between the two sides in an attempt to achieve security and stability in the disputed area.

The senior police officer said the two sides reviewed efforts and tasks carried out by the UN police to maintain security in accordance with Abyei Protocol.

Nur al-Daim pointed out that the meeting urged all parties to speed up the establishment of the Abyei police force to achieve security in the area.
