Sudan’s health minister requires SPLM-N guarantees for polio campaign

Sudanese Health Minister Bahr Idris Abu Garda announced his ministry is prepared to carry out a polio vaccination campaign in the ‘Two Areas’ of South Kordofan and Blue Nile, provided that the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North (SPLA-N) offers him guarantees.

This statement came during the launch of vaccination campaign in Nyala town in South Darfur state yesterday.

The vaccination campaign in the government-controlled areas in Sudan’s Blue Nile State began on 7 April and it was expected to conclude today.

Al Nur Al Dou, a doctor working for Expanded Immunization Program in Tadamoun Locality said the process has already started in the area by targeting 7,500 children.

He noted the vaccination team also distributes vitamins that remedy vision problem where there is an outbreak of night blindness disease among children aged 7-8 years.
