Sudan’s foreign ministry receives worker detained in Juba

Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry announced that it has received an employee from its embassy in South Sudan who had disappeared in Juba on 1 May. The employee was being held by South Sudan’s Military Intelligence (MI).

The ministry said its employee, Kuwa Harin Darjol, was mistreated while held in detention by South Sudanese security agents.

“South Sudan security organs violated all diplomatic norms and international law by detaining the embassy worker without clear justification,” a ministry statement read. “The Ministry regrets the behaviour of South Sudanese security organs towards the employee in Juba.”

The foreign ministry confirmed the Sudanese government's commitment to carry out its duties towards its citizens and take care of their rights.

The minister also called upon the South Sudanese government to take necessary measures with regards to what had happened to their staffer in Juba.

The Sudanese Foreign Affairs Ministry had summoned South Sudan's Ambassador to Khartoum Mayan Dut to explain Kuwa’s disappearance.
