Sudan’s deputy speaker urges govt to speak against US sanctions

The deputy speaker of Sudan’s national parliament Issa Bashari yesterday called for formation of economic, legal, and social groups to speak about the adverse effects of US sanctions on Khartoum.

The deputy speaker of Sudan’s national parliament Issa Bashari yesterday called for formation of economic, legal, and social groups to speak about the adverse effects of US sanctions on Khartoum.

Bashari made the call at a workshop organised by the national assembly in collaboration with national human rights groups.

The parliamentarian emphasized the need to keep the international community informed statistically about the damage caused by the sanctions.

“These groups should also approach neighbouring countries and brief them on the negative impact of the sanctions,” he said.

The head of the national human rights groups Ibrahim Abdul-Halim said they will make use of the appointment of a rapporteur in order to bring an end to the US sanctions.

Ahmed Al-Mufti, director of the Khartoum Centre for Human Rights, said violations of human rights in Sudan were committed by individuals not by the government institutions.

The official underscored the importance of a follow-up on the decision through competent bodies.
