President Omer Al Bashir and his South Sudanese counterpart Salva Kiir held a closed-door meeting on the sidelines of the Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa over the weekend.
South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin disclosed to the press on Sunday at Juba Airport upon return from the forum that during the summit Kiir met the Sudanese president, without providing further details.
But sources close to the Bahir Dar meeting told Radio Tamazuj that the two Sudanese presidents discussed the current political turmoil in South Sudan, the Joint Cooperation Agreements signed in September 2011 and the border issues.
During the meeting, President Bashir also advised his southern counterpart to speed up the peace process, saying the ongoing conflict poses a security threat to the entire region.
