Sudan’s President Omer Al-Bashir has accepted to release the opposition leader Farouk Abu Issa, human rights activist Amin Mekki Madeni and politician Farah Agar, according to a member of the National Dialogue committee known as “7+7”.
Ahmed Bilal Osman, a member of the committee said in a press statement in Khartoum on Wednesday that the “7 +7” body briefed President Bashir on the ongoing preparations for the launch of the National Dialogue, noting a general assembly is due to take place in 1 February.
He disclosed that president Bashir in principle has given a green light to release the three signatories of the Sudan Appeal. Bilal further said they will contact the relevant authorities to release the political detainees so that it can be one of the mechanism’s achievements.
He pointed out that that the dialogue is voluntary and that it has come a long way. The political parties which decided to boycott the National Dialogue should join, said Bilal.
