The Sudanese president plans to participate in the IGAD Extraordinary Summit on South Sudan scheduled to be held on 13 March, following the breakdown of the last round of talks between the two rival factions in Addis Ababa.

In a press statement to SUNA news agency, the press secretary of the Sudanese President Omer Al Bashir said the president will lead Sudan’s delegation to the one-day summit on Thursday in Ethiopia.

The same source noted the summit will discuss the political unrest in South Sudan so as to come out with a firm stance that will push the talks forward besides discussing the proposal of stationing African troops in the nation.

The next round of direct talks between the two sides is expected to resume in Addis Ababa on 20 March.
