Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir is scheduled to address a newly launched communal dialogue initiative at Friendship Hall in Khartoum on Sunday.
It is expected that resolutions of the communal dialogue will be recorded and then forwarded to a coordinating committee linked to the National Dialogue conference.
Presidential Assistant Ibrahim Ghandour earlier said that the new initiative represents an effort to give greater impetus to the higher-level political national dialogue initiative.
He stressed that President Al Bashir’s initiative for the communal dialogue stems from the president’s conviction that it is necessary to involve all components of Sudanese society in the nationwide dialogue rather than confining it to certain groups.
Members of civil society organizations, academia, students, youth and women, and religious leaders as well as traditional leaders are expected to attend the meeting.
The communal dialogue will take place in tandem with ongoing meetings of the national dialogue with opposition parties and the 7+7 Mechanism for the National Dialogue at the Friendship Hall on Wednesday.
