Sudan’s Bashir to attend joint military exercise in Saudi Arabia

Sudan's military has announced that President Omar al-Bashir will attend the closing ceremony of a military exercise in Saudi Arabia today.

Military spokesperson Ahmed Khalifa al-Shami said Sudanese defence minister Awad Ibn Ouf and SAF chief of staff Emad al-Din Mustafa Adawi will travel with President al-Bashir to attend the closing ceremony of the "Thunder of the North" military exercise in Hafr al-Batin area of the Gulf nation.

In a Tuesday statement, the military spokesman said Sudan’s participation with such a high-level delegation comes in the framework of belief in the importance of a joint Arab and Islamic action in all strategic issues.

He noted that the joint action aims at maintaining security and stability in the region and its protection from all dangers and threats targeting the Arab and Islamic nation and to foil all plans that seek to create chaos.

In December last year,  Saudi Arabia announced the formation of a 34-nation Islamic Military Alliance to Fight Terrorism (IMAFT), which is due to deploy forces into Syria to fight the Islamic State (IS) and other jihadist organizations.
