Sudan’s Bashir to attend IGAD summit over South Sudan peace efforts

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir will attend the summit of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa on Thursday, the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reports.

The summit, to be attended by IGAD heads of state and government, is to try to tackle the ongoing civil war in South Sudan.

“Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir will travel to Ethiopia on Thursday to attend the summit of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on peace in South Sudan in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.”

The Sudanese leader would be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed, Director of National Security and Intelligence Service Salah Abdullah, State Minister at the Presidency Rashid Haroun and other officials.

IGAD is an eight-member economic bloc that brings together Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea, South Sudan, Kenya and Uganda.
