Sudan’s President Omar Al-Bashir has announced that all “political prisoners “will be released before the General Conference of the National Dialogue kicks off on 10 October.
His announcement, made during the dialogue’s general assembly at Friendship Hall over the weekend, included no further details on how political prisoners might be defined.
According to the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA), the Sudanese leader said the dialogue coordinating body also known as the”7+7″ mechanism and conciliators should be authorised so as to carry out contacts to achieve full consensus on the proposed recommendations that are not agreed upon in an attempt to avoid any voting process in the upcoming general conference which will approve the recommendations.
He said that the most important outcomes of the dialogue, besides the recommendations were the value of acquaintance and communication between the participating leaders in a manner which was unprecedented.
