Addressing a crowd of citizens in the state capital Al Fula yesterday, the Sudanese leader promised to provide water, health and education services to the people of West Kordofan State.

Meanwhile, Salah Hamdi, a local leader in the state told Radio Tamazuj that the visit by President Bashir was disappointing to local residents who were expecting him to talk practically about development projects in the area.

“The people are disappointed because there were many promises from the officials even the President has pledged to do many projects in the area but he couldn’t implement anything,” said Salah.

Ambush on reception team

Separately, a reception delegation from Al Meiram Locality was ambushed by unknown gunmen while heading to Al Fula town to receive President Omar Al-Bashir yesterday.

Multiple sources confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that the incident took place at Samwa area along the Babanusa-Al Fula road. The ambush resulted in the wounding of at least two people and that they were taken to hospital for treatment.

Opposition member detained

Local authorities in Al Muglad town where President Bashir’s visit was cancelled due to incomplete preparations, briefly detained a leading opposition member of the Popular Congress Party (PCP) for several hours before being released.

The opposition member Ahmed Dehia was arrested for allegedly criticizing the visit by President Omar Al-Bashir to his area.

Dehia confirm to Radio Tamazuj that he was briefly arrested by security agents. He claimed that some equipments were taken from Al Mujald Hospital yesterday and then transported to En-Nahud Hospital so the President can inaugurate it.
