Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir, South Sudan’s opposition leader Riek Machar and other opposition officials will travel to Uganda on Saturday for talks.
The initiative aims to involve Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni once again in South Sudan’s peace talks on power sharing.
Sudan’s foreign minister al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed announced that President Bashir will travel to Kamapala for further talks on the outstanding issues on power sharing in South Sudan.
“We are very optimistic that we will return from Kamapala with a fully agreed responsibility sharing,” al-Dirdiri said.
Multiple sources confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that President Omar al-Bashir will be accompanied by SPLM-IO leader Riek Machar, interim leader of the SSOA group Gabriel Changson, member of the SPLM-FDs group Deng Alor, and leader of the Umbrella of political parties, Peter Mayen Majongdit.
South Sudan President Salva Kiir is also expected to travel from Juba to Kampala on Saturday morning for the peace talks.
