Sudan’s President Omar Hassan al-Bashir on Monday announced the extension of the ceasefire in Darfur, Blue Nile and South Kordofan States for two months.
In June, President Bashir declared a four-month unilateral cessation of hostilities in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan regions.
The Sudanese leader said that a national mechanism will be set up to draft a permanent constitution for the country on the basis of the approved national document.
Addressing the closing session of the National Dialogue conference on Monday, al-Bashir pointed out that the dialogue’s recommendations will be made available for any opposition parties which want to join.“We reiterate our commitment to what has been agreed upon in this document,” said al Bashir.
For his part, Ahmed Tugud, JEM chief negotiator, told Radio Tamazuj that the National Dialogue in Friendship Hall concerns the National Congress Party (NCP) only.
However, he reiterated their commitment to the African Union roadmap for peace, while calling for an inclusive political process in Sudan.
“What has been agreed upon in the National Dialogue is not important to us, this concerns the ruling National Congress Party, but we are committed to the African Union roadmap,” said Tugud.
