Sudan’s Bashir extends ceasefire by one month

Sudan’s President Omar Al-Bashir on Saturday extended his government’s ceasefire with armed opposition groups by another month as part of a peace to bring about peace.

Sudan’s President Omar Al-Bashir on Saturday extended his government’s ceasefire with armed opposition groups by another month as part of a peace to bring about peace.

Omar al-Bashir also called on rebels from Darfur, Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan to join his National Dialogue in the capital Khartoum.”Extending the ceasefire agreement helps enhance the atmosphere of national reconciliation,” said Bashir.

“Providing dialogue with the armed movements creates the opportunity for them to think positively about renouncing violence and joining the peace process.”

The National Dialogue process was launched in October 2015 with the purpose of bringing an end to the ongoing conflicts in the country. The majority of Sudan’s opposition groups have boycotted the talks.

The Sudanese parliament voted last week to introduce the office of Prime Minister in order to devolve some level of power from President Bashir.
