Sudan’s President Omer Al-Bashir on Thursday dissolved his cabinet and tasked the ministers to continue carrying out their responsibilities until a new National Consensus Government is formed.
President Bashir’s decision comes after the appointment of Gen. Bakri Hassan Saleh as Prime Minister to implement the outcomes of the National Dialogue. The post was abolished after the coup that brought the current government to power in 1989.
In a press statement in Khartoum, Ahmed Bilal Osman, Sudan’s Minister of Information, said President Bashir issued two decrees related to the cabinet’s dissolution and the continuation of existing ministers until the formation of the National Consensus Government.
Bilal, who is also the government spokesman, further said President Bashir and the newly appointed Prime Minister will conduct consultations with the political parties before to announce the new government.
He explained that the number of ministries and the share of every political party are not yet agreed upon but the standards of choice have been set up including the political parties participating in the upcoming government, and qualifications of ministers who will be picked for the federal and regional levels.
