Sudan’s President Omer al-Bashir on Monday issued a decree dismissing the military chief of staff and other senior army officers just hours before his swearing-in ceremony for a new presidential term in office today Tuesday.
President Al Bashir in another decree appointed Lieutenant General Mustafa Osman Obeid Salim as the army chief ofstaff and Lieutenant General Ismail Breima Abdel-Samad as the deputy chief of staff.
Separately, the National Legislative Assembly on Sunday nominated Ibrahim Ahmed Omer as new the National Assembly’s speaker after obtaining 375 votes during preliminary sittings.
The newly elected speaker said his government is committed to promoting the principles of dialogue in all issues that affect the country’s progress towards prosperity and development. He further said the recent parliamentary and presidential elections carried out across Sudan were a necessary constitutional requirement.
The leading NCP member commended great efforts exerted by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and other organized forces in curbing insecurity and defending the country from any act of aggression. Omar called on civil society organizations to be vigilant of what he termed as “plots which target the national security and stability”.
