Sudan’s Bashir campaigns in Al Fashir, North Darfur

Sudan’s president Omar al-Bashir yesterday visited Al Fashir town in North Darfur State as part of his final campaigning for April elections despite objections of opposition parties and rebels.

Sudan’s president Omar al-Bashir yesterday visited Al Fashir town in North Darfur State as part of his final campaigning for April elections despite objections of opposition parties and rebels.

Addressing citizens in a public rally, President Bashir deplored tribal clashes between Al-Berti and Al-Ziadia tribes in the State.

He advised the people of Darfur to shun ethnicity, referring to it as a devil that divides people.

Al Bashir said rebels in Darfur claim the region is marginalised in order to impede the government’s efforts to implement developments projects. He accused them of following a foreign agenda.

Al Bashir said nobody will be rewarded through a barrel of gun. He stressed that the government will engage with the rebels decisively.

Candidates unknown

Separately, several local residents at Sharg Ennil area in Khartoums aid they were unaware of details around voting.

They said they did not know the candidates nor the date set for the voting process.

Others said they will look for part-time jobs during the elections as the economic situation is difficult.
