Sudan’s Bashir appoints Ghandour foreign minister

President Omar al Bashir appointed his presidential assistant Ibrahim Ghandour as foreign minister on Saturday while re-appointing both of his vice presidents in the same positions.

Ibrahim Ghandour is Vice President of the ruling National Congress Party. 

According to the state-run Sudan News Agency (SUNA), Bashir issued Decree 14 appointing Bakri Hassan Saleh as First Vice President and Decree 15 appointing Hassabo Mohamed Abdelrahman as the second Vice President. Both had been removed by decree earlier in the week but now are reappointed to their old positions.

Separately, Bashir appointed Mohamed Al Hassan Mohamed Uthman Al Mirghani of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) as first presidential assistant.

Another four presidential assistants are named as Ibrahim Mohamed Hamed, Musa Mohamed Ahmed, Khalil Yusif Al Dagayr and Abdelrahman Al Sadig Al Mahdi.

Bashir’s longtime defense minister Abdelrahim Mohammed Hussein has also been removed. Lieutenant-General Mostafa Osman Abeed will serve as acting defense minister.

The ousted defense minister was appointed governor of Khartoum State.
