Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir has accepted an initiative to release three ‘Sudan Appeal’ signatories held in Khartoum since December, according to a member of the National Dialogue committee known as “7+7”.

Sudanese security forces in December detained opposition leader Farouk Abu Issa, human rights activist Amin Mekki Madeni, and politician Farah Agar after they returned from Ethiopia, where they signed the ‘Sudan Appeal’ demanding end of conflict and democratic transition.

Ahmed Bilal Osman, who is also the information minister, said in a press statement in Khartoum Sunday that the “7 +7” body presented an appeal over the last three days to president Bashir with regards to the release of the three men.

He said the appeal was accepted by the president. Bilal expected the release of the opposition leaders soon.
