Sudan: Rights activist arrested in Blue Nile

A rights activist has been arrested by the Sudanese national security service in Damazin town in Sudan’s Blue Nile state, reportedly because of critical views toward the government.

Mohamed Omer, the chairman of Geissan graduates’ organization was reportedly picked at his house by the security service and taken into custody on Saturday.

A trusted local source told Radio Tamazuj that the arrest of the rights activist had something to do with his critical views on corruption in the state government, saying the activist has been criticizing the state finance ministry for alleged misappropriation of funds.

This is the third time Omer has been arrested by the security personnel in Blue Nile state.
