The Sudanese Ministry of Health has received a consignment of medical supplies from the Republic of Indonesia, according to the authorities.
The 12.44 tons of aid consists of 238 types of medications for treating emergency cases and chronic diseases.
Dr. Haitham Ibrahim, the Sudanese Minister of Health, said the shipment also includes blood bank supplies and medical consumables. He made the remarks while receiving the shipment at Port Sudan International Airport on Thursday.
“The medical supply provided by Indonesia will be distributed to patients for direct benefit,” she added.
Minister Ibrahim expressed confidence that the coordination between the Ministry of Health and Indonesia would continue, especially during the rebuilding of the health systems in Sudan.
He said the supplies will fill the massive gap in the health sector’s current challenges.
Minister Ibrahim said the Sudanese Embassy in Indonesia played a significant role in the medical supplies deal.
For his part, the head of the Indonesian delegation, Brigadier General Fajr Sitiawan, Deputy Minister of the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency, stated that the support came within the framework of bilateral relations between the two countries.
He expressed hope that the support would alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese citizens.
Sitiawan pointed out that humanitarian assistance from the Indonesian government to the Sudanese people reflects the solidarity of the Indonesian people with the Sudanese people.
“The Indonesian government seeks to respond quickly to the present needs, and we consider Sudan a friendly country despite the distance,” he said.
Present during the occasion were Dr. Khalil Mohamed Ibrahim, a representative of the Sudanese Logistics Health Committee, and Dr. Sheikh Al-Din Abdul-Baqi, the National Fund for Medical Supplies Executive Director.
