Sudan receives AU technical report on border demarcation

Sudan’s State Minister at the Presidency Rashid Haroun has received a report of the African Union Technical Evaluation Team on Wednesday from the head of Sudan-South Sudan Joint Agreements Implementation Unit.

Sudan’s State Minister at the Presidency Rashid Haroun has received a report of the African Union Technical Evaluation Team on Wednesday from the head of Sudan-South Sudan Joint Agreements Implementation Unit.

The meeting was also attended by members of Sudan’s Border Demarcation Mechanism.

An observer predicted that the AUTET report could pave the way for technical support by donors through the African Union in order to demarcate the Sudan – South Sudan borders in consultation with authorities.

Press freedom in Sudan

Separately, Thabo Mbeki, former president of South African and chief mediator of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) for Sudan has received a working paper from the head of Sudan’s Press Freedom Institute Mekki El Mograbi yesterday in Khartoum.

The institute’s head raised the issue of press freedom in Sudan and its impact on the national dialogue. Elmograbi said that the institute is the only press freedom NGO registered in Sudan.

He requested participation of chief editors in the national dialogue as observers to protect the dialogue and the press from politicization by the political parties involved.
