The capital of Sudan’s South Kordofan State has experienced an increase in consumer goods prices. The impact on the population is further aggravated by delays of civil service salary payments.

Traders have noted that goods including sorghum and cowpeas have risen in price recently, without providing further details about the problem.  Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, several local residents expressed discontent about ‘skyrocketing’ prices of essential goods.

A local resident explained that the small bushel of sorghum rose to 15 SDG, for example, while the cowpea reached 20 SDG.

He also pointed to delays by the state finance ministry to pay salaries of civil servants. “Parents are unable to cover household needs due to low payment by the government,” he said.
