Traders also noted that expenses on fuel especially diesel have dramatically risen at the pump stations, which also resulted in an increased tariff for public transport.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, several Um Ruwaba residents expressed discontent about the soaring prices of commodities and other agricultural products.

“An sack of sorghum rose to SDG 480, a sack of millet reached SDG 450, and the sack of sugar costs SDG 180, whereas the price of cooking oil is SDG 200,” a trader explained.

Citizens also attributed the problem to poor rainfall and failure of the agricultural season this year as well as deteriorating security situation in the area.
